The Demise Of Welsh Youth Rugby Union
The WYRU have not put in writing that the Executive has ceased to exist.
During the meeting at Golate House on the 16th September 2004, which the WYRU were under the impression had been convened to negotiate some of the points of the Age-Grade Agreement and schedule that had been issued by the WRU, this impression having been given by the chairman of the WRU Game Policy Committee, at the meeting held on Tuesday 14th September 2004, they were not given the opportunity for discussion but were read out a prepared statement by Mr. David Pickering. The WYRU officers informed the WRU personnel present that as they were stopping the grant to the WYRU and taking over the International team they should also be responsible for the administration of the clubs and District. This was because the policy of the WYRU is for the District to be the vehicle between the International team and the grass root clubs for players between the age of 16 and 18 to be seen by the selectors.
Dr. Ken Jones: 1918 - 2004
It is with regret that we have to inform you that following a short illness, Dr Ken Jones (Life Member, Past Chairman of the W.Y.R.U. and Executive Member for North Wales) has passed away at the grand old age of 86. The funeral will be held on Wednesday 6th October 2004 at 1.30p.m. at Prestatyn Parish Church. The WYRU extends its sympathy to his family and friends.
Special General Meeting
The Executive of the Welsh Youth Rugby Union has called a Special General Meeting, to be held at Pyle R.F.C. on Sunday 28th November 2004 at 12 noon. At the meeting, clubs will have the opportunity to discuss the Notice of Motion and vote on the way that they would like Youth Rugby in Wales to go forward.
By calling this meeting the WYRU is giving each member club their democratic right to decide on the future, which was not given to the Executive Committee. It is therefore very important that each club makes an effort to attend, as member clubs will decide if a Union that has over-seen the running of Rugby for players between the age of 16 and 19 for over 50 years still has a place.
Update on Special General Meeting
At the Special General Meeting held yesterday Sunday 28th November 2004 at Pyle R.F.C. the delegates present after a general debate, voted by 9 votes to 53 votes not to support the motion placed before them.
